Michael Nesbit

Technical Specialist

Michael Nesbit is a Technical Officer responsible for the Microscopy and Histology Shared Resource Facilities. In this role, Michael oversees the equipment, trains new users, and provides ongoing technical support.Michael has held this position since 2020. Prior to this, he completed an MPhil at the University of Sheffield, where he used confocal microscopy to investigate mammary gland development.

Michael joined Curtin University in 2017 as a Research Officer, working on high-content imaging and quantification of Alzheimer’s mouse models. Michael is passionate about helping research students and staff understand not only how to operate the technology, but also the underlying principles behind it. He enjoys supporting researchers through experimental design, troubleshooting, data analysis workflow development, and identifying the most efficient pathways to generating high quality data.

Michael particularly values seeing new users develop the confidence to work independently on the microscopes and successfully complete their projects, whether for Honours, PhD research, or publication figures.

Originally from Merseyside in the UK, Michael has lived in Perth for the past nine years. Outside of work, he enjoys following Everton F.C. and listening to music by The Beatles.
